When Island Hopping you can stay on 4 islands, and you get an experience far greater than you would on a cruise ship. In my opinion Island Hopping is the ONLY way to see the real Galapagos, most itineraries include all of the same wildlife and sometimes even more. Also you take day trips to the surrounding islands and islets, so you actually get to see the same islands as the cruises. Its sustainable for the local economy too. Cruises are cramped, the itineraries are just checklists, the guides are mediocre (because big companies hire cheap guides), and the time spent on waiting on other people to disembark is just a waste. There are some great island hopping tours out there, or land-based tours. I have heard of one local tour company, Volcanika Adventures which I booked with due to a recommendation from a friend who has been living there... It is run by people actually from the islands.
